Welcome to the 64th Portsmouth & Pirate Scout Group.
The 64th Portsmouth St. Swithuns Scout Group is celebrating their 75th anniversary in 2010. The 64th are one of the largest Scout Groups in Portsmouth with 90 young boys & girls in four sections, “Beavers”, “Cubs”, “Scouts” & “Explorers”, ranging in age from 5 to 18 years old. We have a dedicated team of volunteer leaders who provide an excellent quality of fun, games and learning in the true Scouting traditions of helping in the community.
For the past 30 years the group has been lucky enough to have the use of an old “Pre-Fab” “Temporary” hut in the car park of St. Swithuns Catholic Church Southsea. The hut was erected during WW2 and first served as a school classroom. When the school moved to new premises the Scouts were offered the use of it. Sadly the time has come when it is no longer viable to repair the hut. The roof leaks in several places; it is cold and has no water or toilet facility. As was the custom of this type of building it contains a large amount of asbestos.
2010 Appeal
Our goal for 2010, our 75th anniversary, is to replace the hut. We would like to demolish the old hut and put up a new “Temporary” building on the lines of the sort that is used for schools or offices. The cost of this is in the region of £50,000. We will be holding a variety of fundraising events throughout the year to raise the money.
How can you help?
Is there a way in which you or your company could help us achieve our goal? Could you organise an event to raise money on our behalf? Could you donate something that we could use to raise funds at an event? Is there a way that you could use some of our young people at your company in order to raise funds? Have you any skills that could help us in the demolishing, building or fitting out of the hut?
We also have an ongoing need for raising funds towards camping trips, equipment and training. Any surplus funds from the hut project would be channelled into these areas.
If you would like to help in anyway, or if you would like more information, please contact me via email info@savethescouts.co.uk You can also visit our web site at www.64thportsmouth.escouts.net
Thank you very much for any help you are able to offer in helping us to continue to provide high quality Scouting for the young people of Southsea.
